The Dutch florist Entius & Zn. has a greenhouses with a surface of about 35.000m2. They cultivate one kind of lilies, 4.000.000psc. per year. For which the temperature is of course rather delicate during the growing process. The constant temperature has to be 160. Grasso uses for this project a high performance heat pump unit with natural refrigerant Ammonia (NH3).

Grasso Componenten Benelux delivers NH3 heat pump unit
After a very extensive research by the Dutch contractor Kodi b.v. to high performance heat pump solutions, the Dutch lily cultivator Entius decided to choose for a Grasso heat pump.
One of the important aspects for this choice was the high COP value.
Mr. Peter Sterrenburg, head of the development departement of Kodi, is the initiator and responsible for this heat pump project. Kodi has asked Ernens Consult Rolde to assist them during this process. They determined the specific heat pump components like compressors, motors, and heat exchangers. The heating capacity needed to be 700 kW at W10/W35 with a COPheat of minimal 5,9. In practice they achieved 747 kW with a COPheat of 6,39.
The notified body TNO-MEP verified all calculations and executed the measurements for the heat pump.
For Grasso, this was a challenge as to fulfill with this technical “black box” solution, the requirements such as a low energy and a high attention to the environmental aspects.
Kodi required a test of the heat pump according to W10/W35 NEN14511.
Therefore various test were held at Grasso Kältemaschinenbau Halle GmbH in Germany witnessed by Kodi, Ernens Consult Rolde and TNO-MEP.
All were very satisfied with the final outcome.
“It is always an exciting moment after a long time of intensive preparation, to start the machines for a performance test”, stated Hans Vuuregge, Sales Manager of Grasso Componenten Benelux b.v.. Grasso’s Dutch sales office for the Benelux countries.
The characteristics of the natural refrigerant NH3 in combination with the Grasso NH3 high performance heat pump fitted very well in this project.
By using every opportunity for energy saving solutions in the chiller/heat pump system, a very satisfied result for this client was achieved.
The Grasso high performance heat pump consists of the following components:
• 2x Grasso 610 reciprocating compressors, using part load favourable power use
• Evaporator, executed with plate heat exchanger and suitable for “flooded” evaporation system
• Water cooled condensor, executed with plate heat exchanger
• Heat exchanger in hot gas part of NH3 system
• Heat exchanger in liquid part of NH3 system
• Electronic start and control panel with PLC monitoring system.
There is a growing demand for this kind of heat pump solutions in the near future.
